About Me

Hi my name is Dan Owen.

I have spent 20 years as a customer focussed professional, 18 of which were spent in technology sales and marketing roles, in all industries, including leadership roles.

Growth is built upon the qualities of people to deliver customer-centric roles. With an entrepreneurial approach to people development and leadership you create self-sufficient people capable of autonomous success and growth.

The cornerstones of my business style can be summarised by; Empowerment, Accountability, and Leadership.

Empowerment:

I create empowered environments where controlled failure is factored into business as usual. I believe in creating employees that feel empowered to make decisions because they are educated to understand the context of their role and it’s importance. They know that so long as they have reasoned why they choose a course of action no one is going to be given blame. Each member has to be able to operate independently of supervision to enable senior leadership to service the greater needs of the team and corporation. Employees should be empowered, with confidence in themselves, and the people around them. All focussed on the same direction of travel.

Accountability:

Leaders should wish, and expect, to be accountable for themselves and their team. Employees should feel accountable to themselves for their targets and actions as well as confident in expressing themselves in constructive contributions to team meetings. There are no foolish ideas, just those that aren’t possible yet.

Leadership:

I believe in show-not-tell as the best method for coaching. It’s how I learnt from great leaders, it’s how your leaders ought to be. I also believe that you learn new things from all the members of your team. Everyone should be able to demonstrate leadership at different times in different contexts. There is no one correct way of doing things. What works for me may not necessarily work for others. I have learned that the most important KPI is success, i.e. money into the corporation’s account, money into the performer’s pay. We all have something that we can take away from successful people.

Conclusion:

Of course, all things are more nuanced than this.

I like to approach opportunities in the context of seeking to understand how I can help companies achieve their goals. I look to create the correct culture in which leaders and teams can continue to be challenged and achieve. What is important for me is to understand how much I can impact the success of people and businesses. I am honest enough with myself (I think) to want to work with people where mutual benefits are easy to see.
